What to do if a company is threatening me for posting on the forum.

Lately, I have been getting several emails from several Goolti users about companies threatening them to remove the posts they have written on the forum. These users are mostly first time entrants into US and are looking for information on the forum.

The companies that do not want to be mentioned in the forum, quickly threaten the users with a lawsuit. The users get scared and write me emails to remove the posting.

I would like to tell all Goolti users that these are tricks played by companies to scare you off and remove their tainted pictures from the forum. Don't fall for this at all. If a company is serious about a lawsuit it will hire a lawyer and that lawyer will send you an official Cease & Desist (C&D) letter. An email carrying a American sounding name at the bottom and a lawyer sounding degree cannot be an official declaration of a lawsuit.

If one does not respond to the C&D, only then the company can move ahead and launch a lawsuit.

So if you get threatening emails from some Goolti company, absolutely do not worry. They are just playing with your mind. Just direct them to the legal section of Goolti.com and I will take care of the rest.

Hi Harshal, I realize the comments section of your blog is probably not the right place for this, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I am a F1 student on mu OPT. Until a couple of months ago, I was working for a desi consultant. When I joined, I signed an employment contract agreeing to work for one year for the consultant, and if I left before one year I would pay damages.

As things turned out, after 9 months or so, I was lucky enough to get a non consulting job by myself, so I quit the consultant.

The consultant is now threatening to sue, and I have just received a letter from his lawyer.

I wanted to ask if you know of anyone else who was in a similar situation, and what was the outcome. From my reading on the net, I came across some pages that said such a contract was illegal.

I would appreciate it very much if you could help my giving me some advice. Lastly, if you could recommend me a good lawer, I would be very grateful. Please drop me a line at abhi.hl@gmail.com if you can. Thanks! -Roso

hi there everybody,

I am a student in F1 right now. before some months I had joined a desi company in CPT. Since I had still not finished school, my
proff wanted to finish some work and called me back. I terminated the CPT and notified the desi company.I had signed the contract with them initially (which mentioned if I leave before I get placed I have to pay). Later I
got a intern and started working in CPT for 3 mth, now desi company wants to extract money
from me 10K+ saying that was incurred in training and stuff, i am getting employment from somewhere else. However, as you all know what training and lodging they provide. They even got me a letter signed from the lawyer. What should I do? I am still in school (as CPT in F1 status). Please reply.

Thank you.

Hi Harshal,

First of all congratulations for doing a great job with goolti, I must say it is a pretty good tool. However, I have a tiny suggestion for you. Do you think it is possible to include a 'sort by state' feature in the review section of consultants. It gets tedious to look at each of them. Just a suggestion.

Hello Harshal,

Thanks for your goolti.com. It's really a great help for the community. I am also looking for a desi consultancy company who is good in Java Training and Placement. Can you please suggest me some of good consultancies? I do apologize if my issue is irrelevant.
Best regards,
maks

Hi Harshal, I appreciate your effort in developing and maintaining this website. It proved very useful to quickly look-up the reviews for the companies who bug me everyday even on weekends. Everyone makes lofty promises, so goolti.com is a really good filter. Please keep up the good work. We support you!
