What to do if a company is threatening me for posting on the forum.

Lately, I have been getting several emails from several Goolti users about companies threatening them to remove the posts they have written on the forum. These users are mostly first time entrants into US and are looking for information on the forum.

The companies that do not want to be mentioned in the forum, quickly threaten the users with a lawsuit. The users get scared and write me emails to remove the posting.

I would like to tell all Goolti users that these are tricks played by companies to scare you off and remove their tainted pictures from the forum. Don't fall for this at all. If a company is serious about a lawsuit it will hire a lawyer and that lawyer will send you an official Cease & Desist (C&D) letter. An email carrying a American sounding name at the bottom and a lawyer sounding degree cannot be an official declaration of a lawsuit.

If one does not respond to the C&D, only then the company can move ahead and launch a lawsuit.

So if you get threatening emails from some Goolti company, absolutely do not worry. They are just playing with your mind. Just direct them to the legal section of Goolti.com and I will take care of the rest.

Removing the BusinessWeek Banner

Businessweek wanted to produce a H1b Fraud related story. It wanted some volunteers to come forward and tell their stories. However, after running the banner for more than 2 months I couldn't get anybody. Nobody seems to be willing to speak to the Media about the hassles they go through when dealing with Desi Consulting firms. Its sad to see this. Makes me think whether I am fighting for the right cause.

I gave up all hope and removed the banner today.

This time is ObjectWin technologies. I got a letter threatening a lawsuit. In the letter they even mentioned that if I display that letter somewhere on the web, they'd sue me for Copyright Infringement.

My advises to all to deal with this company with extreme caution.

Paging introduced - Popular Demand

I've introduced paging with the comments on popular demand. Some goolti companies have more than 30 comments for them. Loading all the comments at one time was becoming quite a performance hit on the servers. Also, it was not a good user experience. Hence, paging has been introduced.

This months biggest spammers

As you guys already know, I get a lot and a lot of spam. These spam posts are mostly from the Goolti's who want to raise the general public opinion about their company which is in fact tarnished.

This entire month I would like to award a Goolti company which goes by the name of "APEX Technology Group", the SPAM award. Their employees have been spamming the Goolti forum with about 6 posts EVERY DAY!

They thought they could game the system, but then there are intelligent people all over the world :-)

5 Days of downtime

Goolti.com is up after about 5 days of downtime. Unfortunately the hosting providers were migrating their servers to a different platform and messed up during the migration!

Introduction of Captcha

There has been heavy spamming by automatic bots from last few weeks. I was manually rejecting around 20-30 spam posts everyday. This was becoming a huge headache.

To control this, I introduced captcha which completely avoids the autobot spam successfully. The captcha is now fully active.

Clarifying my role

I constantly keep getting emails from people requesting me to provide reviews on specific Goolties.

I would like to clarify here on my blog that I only run and manage this site. This site has been my brainchild and I take care of it. It was meant to be a forum for people to communicate their experiences.

I personally have worked only for one Goolti till now and hence cannot possibly have reviews for the multitude of companies for which I am regularly emailed.

If you want reviews on a specific company just post it out on Goolti ! :-)

"This company sucks. Avoid them" - Such posts will not be tolerated

I get more than 20-30 posts everyday for approval. Many of them have only one liners in them.

Something like "This company sucks. Please avoid them". This kind of a post does not give anybody any idea as to what is wrong with the consulting company. There is no detail regarding why the company is bad. Since its not of much help to the readers I'm not going to allow such posts to get through approval.

If you really want to help the readers please write a post with some amount of detail as to why a company is good or bad.

Half baked posts without a tinge of detail will not be allowed.

Lawsuit threat from Vision Systems

Yet another lawsuit threat, this time from Vision systems. I observed that the firm Herten, Burstein,Sheridan,Cevasco,Bottineli,Litt & Harz LLC is sending me a C&D for the third time. Last two times the notices were from some other companies. It seems that this law firm is not doing well since it has no other work than accepting clients who want to threaten people from free speech.

Silvertide software urging me to remove comments

Somebody from Silvertide software called me yesterday asking me to remove the comments for his company. Prospective candidates are inquiring with them about the comments posted on goolti.com . Will keep you guys posted if I hear further from him.

Lawsuit threat from S Cube Soft

Another one. Lawyers from S Cube Soft have threatened of a lawsuit raising concerns over -ve comments from goolti.com users. They mentioned in their letter that users are questioning the credibility of the company after reading the posts on Goolti.

All the comments have been removed.

Lawsuit threat from CEI America

I got a call from Legal Consul for CEI America today complaining about the offending posts about the company. Throughout the conversation he was trying to give me numerous hints that if the comments are not removed the next step for them was a legal action against me.

Hence I had to remove all the content. Its surprising that within one year of the website being live not one soul from this company who enjoyed working there had the heart to write a good opinion about them. Forget that, there is hardly any website at all where there is a good opinion about this company!

Makes you wonder what these guys do for a living!

Goolti.com's undergone its spring season upgrade.

The upgrade now makes it possible for people posting on the forum to tag their email addresses along with their posts/questions. If others are interested to talk to you further on your opinions or question they can now pick your email addresses and mail you directly.

I believe this will be immensely helpful for people who want to desperately talk directly to someone who has already worked for the particular Goolti (Desi consultant) company or knows quite a bit about the company.

I've received several emails from users to provide email addresses of the people who posted their opinions on the forum. This is an upgrade to help such users out.

The spring season will see several more upgrades to Goolti.com which will increase the usability and the user friendliness of the site. Stay tuned.

P.S. - To protect the email addresses of the users from falling into the hands of the spammers the email addresses are not directly published on the site.

Avoiding the Login

I have been consistently being told via user emails that one of the first things I should do it get users to login into the site. Several times I myself feel that thats the way to go.

Disgruntled employees from a Goolti (desi consulting) companies will time and again try to impersonate as someone else and keep slandering the company and its Management. Up till now I've been continuously monitoring and mentoring the forum to detect these slandering and defaming posts and deleting them promptly.

I agree that getting users to login will enable be to determine and restrict these posts. However, I don't see how will it stop such attacks totally. If someone wants to defame some company he/she can open a fake email account and start posting under impersonating names. Given this fact there is absolutely no need to let the users create a login id on the site.

I guess the best way to keep the forum clean from anti-social elements is to keep moderating it affectively. And I guess I am doing that.

I would like to know what the Goolti.com users think of this. After all if majority of the users express their desire for a login I will uphold their demands and enhance the site for login functionality.

Another attack of profanity

Last 2 days I was traveling back from Pune to New York after a very satisfying vacation. These 2 days I could not check the Goolti.com site since I was in transit. Right on these very days of transit there was a profanity attack on the site.

I would like to apologize to all my readers /contributors for this and would like to assure them that I will make all the needed efforts to avoid such attacks in the future. As of now all the offending content has been removed and the site is back to normal.

Fighting profanity on the goolti.com site

I understand that there has been heavy profanity/swear words/spam on the goolti.com site. Someone has been continuously using the anonymous posting functionality to completely overwhelm the board at the homepage itself.

Please be assured that I am working towards a solution to this and am currently developing a profanity filter. This filter will completely block out profane words and even the posts. However, if any of the readers have a better idea to block profanity please let me know. I will be more than glad to implement any feasible idea.

Threatning by some lawyer

I've been getting repeated anonymous mails and also some messages on goolti opinion board that if I don't close down the site a lawsuit will be filed against it.

Wow! I didn't expect that the site will get popular in so less time that people will feel threatened with its success. This only doubles my confidence to keep promoting the site further and help the Indian IT professionals like me and all the others in making prudent decisions.

I am not going to be afraid of any lame threats of lawsuits by some lame ass guy who anonymously calls himself a lawyer and sends threatening e-mails.

I only want to say to such people that 'Grow Up', its time now.

Subsequent to the launch of the website www.goolti.com I've launched this blog which will track the latest developments with the Goolti.com website. I will use this also as a mechanism to interact with readers and users of the site.

Goolti.com has a simple aim of reviewing Desi consultancy firms operating in the US so that IT professionals can have complete information of these Desi consultants before they can make a decision to join them.

At Goolti.com you can write a review for the consultant you have worked for or answer a question put up by IT professionals like you who are seeking more information on the desi consultant they are planning to join.
